Reuniting the Surigao Treasure
Presented by Ayala Museum with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas
- When
- 17 May 2024 to 30 May 2027, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday
- Where
- Ayala Museum, fourth floor, Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City 1224
- Who it's for
- Anyone who thinks Philippine history starts in 1521
- Good to know
- The gold galleries have the tightest light levels in the building, so phone cameras struggle and flash is not allowed. A full access pass is needed to reach the fourth floor, since the cheaper tickets cover fewer floors. Combine it with Turning Tides on the third floor in a single visit rather than paying twice. Weekday afternoons are the quietest.
About this event
The Surigao hoard is the largest find of precolonial gold ever made in the country, and for decades it was split between two owners who never showed it together. This long run brings 38 goldworks from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas into the Ayala Museum's gold gallery, where roughly a thousand pieces already sit. Sashes, sacred cords, ear ornaments and funerary masks, all made before the first Spanish ship arrived.
