About this event
A solo show by Dutch-Filipino artist Martha Atienza, who divides her time between Rotterdam and Bantayan Island in Cebu and works with its fishing communities. The centrepiece is a single-channel video that places footage of coconut trees felled by rising seas in 2019 against the island's new 2026 seawall, reading the coastline as a ledger of climate change. Atienza has represented the Philippines at the Venice Biennale, so this is rare access to her recent work in an intimate gallery rather than a museum survey. It runs to 11 July at the country's leading contemporary gallery in Makati; drop in on a weekday afternoon, and worth crossing town for if you follow serious art.
