9 Works Theatrical
Yemaya
Presented by 9 Works Theatrical
- When
- June 13 to July 5, 2026, Fri 8:00 PM; Sat and Sun 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM
- Where
- The Black Box, The Proscenium Theater, Estrella Street, Rockwell Center, Makati, Metro Manila
- Who it's for
- For anyone who follows serious theatre and wants an intimate room rather than a big house; good for a date. It is at The Black Box in Rockwell, Makati, easy on a Friday evening if you are nearby, and the weekend matinees at 3:00 PM are gentler on Saturday and Sunday traffic.
- Good to know
- Ticketed, and the Black Box seats very few, so book ahead. Runs 13 June to 5 July, with Friday shows at 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM. The Filipino adaptation rewards close attention, so arrive settled rather than rushed.
About this event
9 Works Theatrical stages its first straight play in the intimate Black Box, a Filipino adaptation by Eljay Castro Deldoc of Quiara Alegria Hudes' "Yemaya's Belly." Hudes is the Pulitzer winner and book writer of "In the Heights," and this is a rare chance to see her early work in Manila, directed by Gawad Buhay winner Ed Lacson Jr. The story follows a boy who leaves his island home for a wider world, threading myth, motherhood and migration. The small room and strong local ensemble reward close attention, making this worth crossing town for serious theatre. It runs June 13 to July 5, with Friday shows at 8:00 PM and Saturday and Sunday shows at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM at Rockwell in Makati; book ahead, as the venue seats few.
